Mrs. Janet Gasper Chowdhury
(President)

Mrs. Janet Gasper Chowdhury is The President of the St. Augustine Education Society. Her father the C.R. Gasper is the founder of the St. Augustine’s Day group of Schools and she has been serving on the Governing Body of the society for over 25 years.

She has spent most of her career in the corporate world having worked in leading companies like ABN Amro Bank, Nestle and PricewaterhouseCoopers. She also served as the Chief People Officer (Group Head HR) of Magma Fincorp and Director on the board of Magma HDI General Insurance Company. She also served on the National Board of the National HRD Network which is the apex body of HR professionals in India. During her career she has been a recipient of professional awards, which include being amongst 100 most influential HR leaders in Asia two years in a row and amongst the 40 most talented HR leaders in Asia by World HRD Congress. An MBA from XLRI, Jamshedpur and an alumnus of Trinity College, London and St. Xavier’s College Kolkata, she guides the school management on most matters dealing with Human Resources, new initiatives & infrastructure. She also helps with the Proud to be Augustinian program that serves the community. She is a sports enthusiast playing squash, badminton and golf in her free time.

Mr. Amitava Chowdhury
(Secretary & CEO)

Mr. Amitava Chowdhury has spent nearly 20 years of his career in the corporate world with multinational companies like Glaxo & Nestle. He has won awards of Star Performer during his career and has pioneered various innovative branding and marketing initiatives at Nestle that have been highly acclaimed.

Thereafter he took over as the Secretary & Chief Executive Officer of The St. Augustine Education Society, which currently owns and manages the schools under the name St. Augustine’s Day School situated at Barrackpore & Shyamnagar. Here too he has taken the establishments from strength to strength and implemented turnkey projects that have been highly successful. An MBA from XLRI Jamshedpur, Amitava is a keen cricketer & a sports and technology enthusiast. He leads the schools focusing on growth, development & brand building whilst introducing state of the art changes in every aspect of the school.

Mr. Xavier Gomes

Mr. Xavier Gomer an alumnus of St. Xavier’s College and IHM, Kolkata, has been associated with a number of star rated hospitality Chains in India & abroad. Presently he is associated with Guru Nanak College of Hotel Management under the JIS group as a Principal since 2008.

Mrs. M. Ratna Ghosh

M.R.S. Ghosh is a keen educationist and has been associated with St. Augustine’s Day School for four decades now. She joined the institution as an Assistant teacher and then occupied prominent positions like Primary Head and Sectional In-charge of the entire school. She was so diligent and dedicated that she became a Senior Management staff and the Head Mistress of St. Augustine’s Day School, Shyamnagar. After 2012 she was associated with the CEO’s office till she retired in 2015. She still continues to provide her guidance as a member of our Governing Body. The fact that she spent 40 years working with our Founder Mr Gasper, makes her one of the most experienced professionals at St. Augustine’s and enables us to ensure continuity of the values & culture that our Founder inculcated in the schools not to mention the academic and administrative experience that she has gathers working closely with him.

Rev. Rodney Borneo

Rev. Rodney Borneo is a Priest of the Archdiocese of Calcutta. He completed his BA from the University of Calcutta and later completed MSc in Psychology- First class with Gold Medal from Assam Don Bosco University. He holds a degree in Theology from the Urbania University in Rome and a Diploma in Applied Spirituality from Teresianum University also in Rome. He has worked tirelessly to further the cause of education among the Santhal tribe of West Midnapore district of Bengal. His efforts in education have taken him to Central Australia to work with the Aborigines at Alice Springs. For his various other contributions to the society he was awarded the Dr. M.A. Wajid Miah Gold Medal by Bangladesh. This gold Medal is instituted in memory of the late husband of the Prime Minister of Bangladesh. He regularly conducts orientations and seminars for adolescents and school teachers all across the country. He had the singular honour of leading the Kolkata delegation for the Canonization of St. Teresa of Calcutta at the Vatican. He has been awarded the degree Doctor of Letters by the International Economics University for SAARC Countries. He is also the President of Heads of Anglo Indian schools in West Bengal

Mr. Benny Selwyn

Mr. Benny Selwyn is an Alumnus of St. Thomas Day School & St. Xavier’s College, Kolkata and an eminent industrialist who has set up three engineering factories manufacturing high-end Petroleum Oil tankers & Underground Petroleum storage tankers. He has occupied prestigious positions in the Committee of a number of social clubs, like Rangers Club, Grail Club and Dulhousie Institute. He had been in the Board of All India Anglo-Indian Association and is also associated with Kolkata Anglo-Indian Service Society. His commercial acumen is a guiding factor to assist us in our financial and commercial decisions.

Mrs. Mildred Samuel

Mrs. Mildred Samuel is an Alumus of Loreto and has worked for companies like Brooke Bond & ITC Ltd. She has been associated with our school for over two decades. Her strong Corporate background brings a different perspective to the world of education.

Rev. Fr. Dr. Xavier Savarimuthu, SJ

Rev. Fr. Dr. S. Xavier, SJ is the Vice Principal of Commerce, Head of Department of Environmental Studies and Asst. Director Central and Goethals’s libraries at St. Xavier’s College, Kolkata. He is the coordinator for Global Ecology Jesuit Network, and a whole lot of credential which will run into pages. In short he has received special awards and recognition for Best Proficiency in M.Sc in Env. Sc; Best Project work in Env. Sc; First rank and Gold medal in M.Sc from Bharathi Dasan University. He has couple of Paper Publications for international and National levels. Several papers presented and abstracts published in International & National Seminars. He is involved in Consultancy in GO/NGO/Corporate Sectors. He has attended many courses and held many seminars in India and abroad. He has interests in various fields and one of them is helping the West Bengal Government in alternative water source technologies.

Nathan Gasper Chowdhury

Nathan, the youngest member of the Governing Body is an alumnus of La Martiniere for Boys and also holds a Professional Certificate in Communication Skills, from Trinity College, London. He has played a key role in designing the Public Speaking curriculum for the school and has conducted workshops for the students. He has also completed a course on Entrepreneurship from Harvard University. A talented sleight of hand artist (magician) he has performed at informal settings including at the Academy of Magic, Los Angeles. He has performed in various stage shows (plays and dance performances) and has rowed at the National level winning medals for his school.

Shanaya Chowdhury

We welcome Shanaya Chowdhury to the Governing Body. She has graduated from La Martiniere for Girls and is currently studying Design in Singapore. She is a creative young lady who has excellent planning and organization skills. She was part of the Editorial Board for her School Magazine. She has also studied Communication Skills at Trinity College London and Speech & Drama at Calcutta School of Music.
She was felicitated by the Anglo Indian Association at the Toppers Felicitation Program 2023 for her performance in the ISC Exams.
She plays Squash and had secured an All India rank in the Girls Under 11 category. Her appreciation of what the younger generation expect will help us to introduce relevant programs and activities for our students.
